Stand off in Shaker Heights |

On Thursday, November 15, a 26-year-old man was arrested by Shaker Heights police after a four hour standoff.  Shaker police received a call from the man's family when they realized that he hadn't taken his prescribed medication for a mental disorder he suffers from.  Authorities say that this was not the first time they received a call about the man's behavior.

The Shaker police arrived at the home around 10 p.m. and instructed the family to evacuate the house but the man would not comply.  An hour into the standoff, the Beachwood SWAT team arrived at the scene to assist with negotiating with the man. 

After police threw tear gas into the home, the man surrendered around 2 a.m. and was taken to an area hospital for a psychiatric evaluation.
